It can be easy to feel cynical about politics, and overwhelmed by the volunteers at polling and pre-polling booths.

But volunteers from all sides said they were motivated by hope for a better Australia.
At the Nowra pre-poll booth, Allan McDonald, was handing out how-to-vote cards for Katrina Hodgkinson.
"I'm a great believer in the Liberals and the Nationals as a political force," he said.
"That's the main reason I'm doing it, to support that type of democracy."
Graham Roberts, handing out how-to-vote cards for Labor, echoed his sentiments, if not his political view.
"I've done it for 60 years now, so it's too late to stop," Mr Roberts said.
"I think it makes a difference. I think when people see people supporting a candidate they think it's worthwhile."
Rivka Symons was at the pre-poll booth to support Warren Mundine.
"I believe in what he stands for, and the Liberal Party especially," she said.
"It's in my heart, that's why I'm here. It's not a job, it's something I like doing.
"I love it, I think most of us do. The best part is, we all have different views but we respect one another, that's what I see here."
Passionate Greens supporter Jill Trotter said the interaction between people from different parties was invaluable.
"I think the planet is worth saving, and I think we can do it, but this ten years is it - I'm very passionate about it," she said.
"I do like to get to know what people are thinking, the other parties and their policies.
"You need to hear what other people are saying and open your mind, otherwise you get too biased."
The personal touch also mattered to volunteers - Kaye Johnson said she was motivated by her belief in Grant Schultz's ability to represent his community.
"He would make a fantastic local member," she said.
"If he is half as good as his dad was, this electorate will be very, very proud to have him. I'm in the middle of travelling Australia at the moment, when I heard Grant was doing this I came up.
"I only missed one of his dad's elections. I like politics, I used to do photography out west, I got involved then, and I enjoy it."
