What happened to Country Labor posters?
Driving around the Eurobodalla over the past few weeks, we noticed election posters for both major party candidates at a number of locations along the Princes Highway, as well as other main roads. Suddenly, nearly all the Country Labor posters have disappeared.

Are the Liberals playing dirty? Their posters are screwed or nailed high up on large roadside trees. Country Labor posters were mounted more sensitively and less-destructively on wooden stakes.
It must have been easy for the operatives who did the rounds on Tuesday evening to remove them.
The reactionary election material we are receiving from the NSW Liberals, accusing Labor of lying and their leader of being corrupt instead of focusing on their policies, implies a party desperately attempting to cling to power at any cost. They don't represent us or our values.

Council congratulated on quarry park
Moruya Quarry Park is an idyllic picnic area on the north shore of the beautiful Moruya River, approximately 5km from the CBD.
BBQ facilities are available. Moruya Rotary established the park next to the historic quarry more than 30 years ago. The quarry is an important part of Moruya's history, dating back to the early years of settlement. Its granite was used to construct the Sydney Harbour Bridge and iconic buildings.
Mayor Liz Innes officially opened the upgraded park on Saturday, March 11, with members of the park's sunset committee, Rotary and others.
The park has been upgraded in stages. Recently, the council funded and built a concrete slab/footpath for safe access and for those less mobile, from the fishing platform to the toilets, which have disability facilities.
On behalf of recreational fishers, I thank the council for providing this easy, all-weather access from the fishing platform to the amenities. Those less mobile will certainly appreciate the ease of access as will others. Parking is provided immediately in front of the platform.
Each time I pass, somebody is casting a line, soaking up the sun or having a chat to whomever stops - especially they stay a while and wet a line! Council - well done.

Hanging Rock concerns
The proposed redevelopment of the Coachouse marina resort, with it's scale and bulk, has enormous implications for Batemans Bay.
Traffic: the Beach Rd and Caitlin Ave intersection proposed as access for 330 dwellings is dangerous now. No turn lanes; turning right is at any time difficult and terrible in holidays. Pedestrians and cyclists crossing on the shared cycle/footpath which is hard up against Beach Rd, a church (cars parked all down the streets when services/funerals are conducted) and motel entrances immediately as you turn into Caitlin. A disaster.
A well-positioned roundabout partially within the bounds at the site of the existing Coachouse access would be a solution. Far clearer traffic sight lines; why take cars and trucks into the cul de sac streets of Hanging Rock when there is an existing main road access?
Parking: over 55s (230 over 55s apartments proposed) caravans, recreational vehicles, boats, campers etc. In this DA there is no parking and no storage facility for oversize vehicles. They will park in streets, the boat ramp or the golf club.
Aging in place: NSW has a stated aim of "aging in place". Our shire commissioned an independent report, which recommended villa-style independent living, ground-level units and asked council to promote "aging in place". This high rise development is the antithesis.
Tourism loss: 550 tourism beds replaced by the vague suggestion that some apartment owners may rent them out.
Apartment blocks will, for many Hanging Rock home owners, over shadow, look terrible, block breezes plus result in the loss of trees and wildlife habitat.
The assessment has to be more than "does it comply legally". We rely on forward-thinking planning based on community needs, not commercial returns. Email council by April 5 quoting DA - 272/19.

Late last year, the NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern offered a heartfelt apology to the family of the murdered British backpacker Grace Millane, saying there was a collective feeling of shame in New Zealand over her fate.
Is it utterly beyond you, as leader of this nation, to express the profound shame felt by innumerable Australians for the appalling slaughter that has been perpetrated by a deluded Aussie kid in New Zealand?
If this is so, it is the most powerful illustration of the relative moral stature and spiritual development of the two ANZAC prime ministers, and reflects very poorly on Australia as a nation.
