Upgrades include a dedicated left-turn lane from the Princes Highway onto Hector McWilliam Drive, increased separation from through-traffic, new signs, new line markings, a new median strip, improved drainage, resealing, and replacing the existing car-park off Hector McWilliam Drive.
Deputy Prime Minster, Nationals' Leader, and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Michael McCormack, said the intersection would now be able to better cope with busy seasons.
"I have heard from many locals - including during my most recent visit in December - how important upgrades to the Princes Highway are, and this is a step in the right direction," he said.
"We're investing in the road network to get people home sooner and safer."
The upgrades come almost three years after a serious motorcycle accident at the intersection.
A Nambucca Heads man in his 40s was transported to hospital with serious arm, wrist, abdominal, chest, and back injuries after a smash on April 27, 2016.
The motorcycle rider was traveling south on the Princes Highway when he collided with a Kia Sorrento at the intersection.
The 71-year-old driver of the Sorrento had turned right out of Hector McWilliam Drive into oncoming traffic.
Roads and Maritime Services officially agreed to the upgrades during a meeting with the Tuross Head Progress Association in January, 2017.
Nationals' candidate for Gilmore, Katrina Hodgkinson, said the Princes Highway was a vital corridor.
"The Princes Highway is a vital project in the Gilmore electorate," she said.

"Whether it's making sure people are safe, or delivering a boost to local truckies through better productivity, we'll keep working to ensure the Highway gets the upgrades it needs."
Member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis, said the upgrades will make the road safer for both personal and commercial use.
"The bus bay was widened and extended to the south to allow buses to park further away from the intersection and improve sight distance," she said.
"The works were extensive, but both local and visiting drivers will experience the benefits of a safer intersection and shorter travel times.
"We wish to thank the community for their patience and support during these works."
