There are eight positions available, duty commander Alan Gerrard said the unique job role comes with plenty of benefits.
"The skills and training certification for firefighters are also applicable in other jobs," he said
"We give chainsaw training, a high level of first aid training and teach how to handle dangerous goods and substances."
“Before jumping on a fire engine you need nine days of training, then training is also ongoing after that,” he said.
On-call firefighters receive a fortnightly retainer of $71.75 and an hourly rate of $34.17 when responding to a call-out or undergoing training.
Mr Gerrard said positions are available for people of all backgrounds, those who have day-time availability are preferred.
“People can designate the hours they are available but we are especially looking for people with daytime availability Monday to Friday,” Mr Gerrard said.
Mr Gerrard said there are opportunities for on-call firefighters to later apply for permanent positions when advertised.
“The roles on offer are not permanent but as an on-call firefighter previously known as a retained firefighter.
“It is not to get confused with the permanent positions, as there is no guarantee that this can lead to a full-time role,” he said.
“It will give you the opportunity to see what being a firefighter is like before making that step to apply for permanent role when it is advertised.”
After liaising with other country areas, Mr Gerrard said he remains optimistic as they are “trying to get the recruitment process down to four months”.
“If someone puts an application in, I will start processing it the next day,” he said.
If you are interested in applying visit fire.nsw.gov.au, or get in touch with one of the stations directly.
“Come down and have a chat to the firefighters – check out one of the drill nights and see what we do,” Mr Gerrard said.
Applications close March 8.
