NSW finished with a 5-2 record at the event, which culminated in a 79-69 win over Tasmania in the bronze-medal match.

O'Shannessy said he was "pretty stoked" with the way the team played.

"We did pretty well," he said. "This kind of event is a bit different because country and metro kids are coming together, but we bonded really well over the week.

"It was probably one of my better weeks at a national tournament as well."

O'Shannessy said the competition was the most challenging one he'd played in so far.

"It was tough, both mentally and physically," he said. "The teams were so evenly matched, so it was about who could stay focused for longer periods, and you had to be fully prepared for every match."

The NSW team took advantage of their time in Canberra to do a little sightseeing before play began on Tuesday, February 12.

"We all went to the War Memorial as a team bonding thing in the lead up," O'Shannessy said. "The whole experience, both on and off the court, was one of the most memorable national championships I've been to."

NSW kicked things off with a 110-51 victory over the Northern Territory on Tuesday night, during which O'Shannessy recorded eight points and six rebounds.

O'Shannessy fouled out of NSW's second match, an 82-68 win over Tasmania, but not before finishing with five rebounds for the match.

NSW suffered their first loss on Thursday night, a 62-61 nail-biter against eventual champions Victoria. The squad returned to the winner's list on Friday with a 98-91 win over Victoria, with O'Shannessy scoring 11 points in the win.

O'Shannessy scored 10 points in NSW's 99-68 quarter-final win over South Australia, but struggled in a 95-77 semi-final loss to Western Australia.
