Great reports this week of large yellow fin bream being caught around Preddy’s Wharf area, soft plastics like Squidgie bio tough double tail grubs are working a treat.
Over on the sand flats and weed beds, surface lures like bent minnows and sugar pens are catching some nice bream and whiting with the occasional flathead thrown in.
If you want to target flathead directly, try a soft plastic or a bottom magic hard bodied Jackson lure down in the channel from Ryan’s creek down to Quarry wharf.
Whiting are also being caught on the flats when the tide is up in front of River Breeze caravan park and above the hospital. Try either live nippers, fresh worms or surface lures.
Tuross Lake
Great reports this week of extra large flathead, jewfish, bream, and whiting being caught in most parts of the system.
Paul, while visiting from Canberra this week, not only caught plenty of whiting up around the 40-centimetre mark, but nailed flatties up to 82 cm.
Graham, visiting from Victoria, got a great surprise while drifting for flathead near the boat shed when he hooked up to a jewfish around 90 centimetres.
The fight took around 20 minutes on a six-pound line, and after some photos, he let it swim away to play another day.
Bream are being caught in the oyster leases using both soft plastic grubs and 55 mm shallow diving hard bodies.
Rocks and Beaches
The squid are still being caught off most headlands in the area - find some kelp beds and you will find a great feed.
Whiting and bream are being caught in the gutters around Bingie and also along Wind Sock beach.
Offshore
Good numbers of flathead are being caught from Broulee all the way down to Potato Point, with Lund’s calamari as the bait of choice. These fish have caught anywhere from 10 metres of water, right out to the 65-metre mark.
Snapper are being caught off Pedro Point out around the 30-metre mark, with some kingfish cruising around even in as close as the first reef off Moruya in 12 metres of water.
Out wide marlin are still being caught off the canyons, with quite a few dolphin fish hanging around as well.
