Labor Gilmore candidate Fiona Phillips says an election promise to fund a 25-metre indoor pool in Batemans Bay does not preclude a future 50-metre pool.

Speaking in Batemans Bay on Friday, February 15, Ms Phillips said the $25 million pledge would fund Eurobodalla Shire Council's planned aquatic and arts centre, which includes a 25-metre heated pool.
Members of the Batemans Bay branch of the Labor Party have publicly campaigned for a 50-metre option at the Mackay Park site.
"We have to get this project moving," Ms Phillips said.
"We definitely need a 10-lane 25-metre indoor pool. We are backing the council.
"That does not preclude in the future a 50-metre outdoor pool. The community has every right to push for that.
"I understand there is space available there, so that might be something in the future the council could not look at.
"It does not preclude this fantastic facility going ahead. I know they are still going through their final designs but we have to get this project moving."
Shadow Regional Services and Local Government Minister Stephen Jones said the council briefed Labor on the plans last year.
"(We) went through all the plans, went through the prospectus, looked at the business case they provided to us last year; we like the look of it," Mr Jones said.
"if Labor wins the next federal election, which is no more than three months away, we will commit $25 million."
Ms Phillips thanked the Batemans Bay Indoor Aquatic Centre Committee for its fundraising and commitment.
"I was amazed they have been fundraising for 25 years and they still had no all year round swimming facility," she said.
"We see them out at the markets, in the shopping malls, raising money and really pushing forward with this project that we are now happy to support.
"I know how important it is to be able to access all-year-round swimming. It saves lives. This is going to mean more investment in our local area, greater spending, more tourism, and jobs."
