Gilmore candidate Fiona Phillips said a Shorten Government would invest in "a modern facility that will meet the challenges of a growing region".
"The facility will be used by locals of all ages, and will allow Batemans Bay families to access a modern swimming facility, including warm water therapy in their own town that can be used year-round."
Eurobodalla Shire Council is preparing final plans for the centre, but controversy continues about the length of the planned pool. A 25-metre heated indoor pool, open year round, would replace the existing outdoor 50 metre pool, which is open in the warmer months. There would also be a hydrotherapy centre, toddler pool and other facilities.
In October, Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis, who will not recontest her seat for the Liberal Party, said the federal government had allocated $25 million for the multi-use centre, subject to the business case being made.
Ms Phillips said Labor’s investment was "for a 25 metre, 10 lane indoor heated pool, a warm water aqua therapy pool for fitness classes and with ramp access; a toddler and leisure pool suitable for learn-to-swim classes, a water play splash pad; water slides; gym and fitness areas". An auditorium, workshops, recording studio and meeting rooms are planned.
