A cool and humid morning saw 80 runners and walkers turn out for our weekly Saturday morning parkrun. It is lovely to see more and more regulars participating. This week we had a couple from Parramatta who came along. They wanted a weekend away to celebrate their wedding anniversary and had to go to a destination that had a parkrun. Many thanks for choosing us Melvyn (156 parkruns) and Kathryn Cox (85 parkruns).

The wonderful team at Raine and Horne took over all the volunteering positions again this week. This is the 5th time Adam Porteous and his crew have helped us out. They have a great time and it lets many of our regulars who would normally volunteer enjoy the run. Bed Webster was the Run Director and his happy helpers from Raine and Horne were: Nicole Frigo, Meran Frigo, Mirella Granata, Sarah Ralston, Christine Ralston, Megan Usher and Tori Hening.
We are always on the lookout for volunteers. All positions are easy to do, and we always have a Run Director there to guide you through. A minimum of six people are needed to take on all the volunteer roles on a specific day. We welcome any sporting groups, businesses or other community groups or families to let us know if you are interested.
We had eight first-timers on our course and three people achieved personal best times. Congratulations to Gary Bowen, Andrew Mathers and Gaye Smith. Well done especially considering the humidity of the morning. Gary was visiting from Canberra and completed his 320th parkrun.
The highlight of the day was to congratulate one of our favourite regulars Julie De Ernsted on completing her 50th run. Some 48 of these runs were done on our course, one in Canberra and one in Canada. Julie is a great contributor to parkrun. She has volunteered 9 times and ran her 50th run helping pace another runner. A fun parkrunner she is.
Often the hardest part for any first-time parkrunner is making it to your first event. You’ve seen your friends or a family member post about it on social media for weeks, months or even years. You’ve always been curious but were never sure if you had what it took to run or walk the 5km to do it. We are sure that we’ll not only encourage you on your first parkrun but that you will return for another parkrun as early as the following week.
Please break down the barrier and join us. A walk or run or shuffle, whatever. We welcome everyone to come along and join in for exercise and fun every Saturday morning at 7.50am at Rotary Park. A great way to start the weekend and also a lovely way to enjoy an hour with a friend.
