NSW Shadow Minister for Lands, the Hon. Mick Veitch MLC, and Candidate for Bega, Leanne Atkinson, met with the Recreational Fishign Alliance of NSW at Tuross Head to make the announcement.
“Labor wants to support better, safer boating and fishing along the Far South Coast,” Mr Veitch said.
“These are some of the best places in NSW to get out in a boat or cast a line – we want to make sure that people do this as safely as possible.”
The funding would help install safety measures such as lighting and sand-bar cameras at various points along the coast.
This would allow boaters and fishermen to check the conditions at a bar before attempting a crossing.
“Boating and fishing is part of our way of life,” Ms Atkinson said. “It is good to see this sort of response to local safety needs.”
