Tuross Head
Tuross Head Country Club men’s golf stroke and putt monthly medal competition was held this week, an event where golfers compete over three grades with the winners of each grade then competing for the title of “medal of medal” winner later in the year.
The A grade winner on Saturday was Ben Hewison who returned an excellent score of 69 net strokes beating Allen Gannon on a countback. Troy Kingdom filled third place with net 70 strokes.
B grade golfer John Phyland was first with a very low score of 65 strokes.
Peter Nikolic 68 filled second placing and Trevor Jones was third on a countback.
There was also very close competition in the C grade division with Graeme Bell emerging as the winner with 66 net strokes.
Allen Lee had a good round of 67 net strokes for second placing and Herb Muriwai’s 67 saw him finish in third position on a countback.
Richard Kelly won the putting competition with a creditable 24 putts and Peter Johnston won the Golden Shot award with 1.15 m.
Nearest the pins were won by A grade players:
Ian Miller on the 4th hole with 1.83 m.
Adam Husband was best on the 6th with 3.63 m and Ian Lawson was closest on the 7th with 2.75 m.
B grade best on the 4th was Wayne Fullerton with 2.18 m.
Peter Garn was awarded the 6th with 2.72 m and Andrew Gordon won the 7th with 5.00 m.
C grade player L. Kelly was closest on the 4th hole with 2.20 m and Herb Muriwai was best on the 6th with a very close 30 centimetres.
The coming Saturday round at Tuross Head is a single stableford Scoty round.
Thursday’s medley stableford competition was won by Brad Doolan who had a round of 42 points with Stuart McKell in second spot on a countback.
David Gray’s 37 points saw him fill third spot on a countback from Herb Muriwai and Mitch Smith, Rex Wood and Chris Cox won nearest the pin awards.
Tuross Head Ladies
After a long break it was great to see 24 starters return to play in a 4 person Ambrose event.
We also welcomed some new players, who will hopefully become regulars to our game.
The winners were Kaye Lunt, Kaye Jones, Shirley Quinlan, Kathy Millikin with a 60.88 net. Runners up were Leonie Snodgrass, Jennifer Gray, Dorothy Madden, Marie Muriwai - 65.62 net.
Balls went to Lyn Benger, Gayle MacAlpine, Ann Challender, Margaret Downey - 69.75 net as well as Annette Manton, Ann Ware, Chris Wratten, Teri Swanbury, also with a 69.75 net.
Nearest the pin on the 6th went to Ann Ware (in the hole). The golden hole in division one went to Chris Wratten & in division two it was Marie Mapleson. Next week the ladies will play in a 2 bbb event.
Catalina Veterans
On Thursday, January 31 a group of 106 veteran golfers competed in three divisions with the following results

The distribution of balls went to 17 points. Nearest the East Coast Carts pin on the 25th was John Rogan.

Results for February 6
With overnight rain clearing a good field of 57 players ventured onto the course for this morning’s American Foursomes event.
Winners on the day were the handy pairing of Greg Smith and Neal Watson with an impressive 27.75 strokes on a course rated at 35.
Runners-up were Rick Brake and Richard Wharton on 29.37, followed home by Peter McRae and Mike Birks on 33.5 and Dorothy Madden and Bruce Martin on 33.75 on count back.
Balls or chocolates went to Don Russell and Peter McRae on 33.75, Derek Hoare and Peg Nevett on 34.37, Andrew Gordon and Len Rogers on 35, Leonie Snodgrass and Steve Johnston on 35.25 and finally Ted and Shirley Quinlan on 35.87.
The unlucky pair winning the Bradman award this week were John Cox and Kevin Dukes. Nearest the pins were won by Richard Kelly on the 4th, David Williams on the 6th, and Kay McLeod and Ted Quinlan on the 7th. Ken Brown took out the Accuracy drive.
Moruya Women
After some very welcome early showers, the sun came out again bringing with it another hot and humid Wednesday when Moruya Women Golfer’s played their first 18 hole Stableford for the year.
Congratulations to Division 1 winner Christine Edwards, with 36 points, who on a count back narrowly pipped runner-up Dee Meek, also with 36 points.
Division 2 was taken out by Barbara Roberts with 31 points and runner-up was Jan Loutitt on a count back with 30 points.
Nearest the Pin winners were Viv Thornett on the 5th hole, Marilyn Bingham on the 6th hole and Robyn Hawkins on the 12th hole. Robyn Hawkins also achieved the Longest Drive for Division 1.
Congratulations also go to to Annette O’Connell, with 71 points, who won the GNSW Medal event held on Saturday February 2 and Kym Batt who was the putting star with just 30 putts for the round.
