The company will be presenting a show set on a radio set or, as it was then called, a wireless station, in the 1930s.
Art Deco was at its height. Change was in the air. Storm clouds were gathering in Europe. All the while trouble is about to come to our radio station in the shapes of an ambitious producer and a local gangster.
All this is in the minds of the cast as they rehearse their lines. The show’s director, Linda Heald, has been telling the cast that they must be ‘off script’ by next week.
One week has come and gone and only one of the cast is still carrying his script around with him – don't forget theatre gave birth to that famous phrase “it’ll be alright on the night.”
And it will be alright on the night.
“This is our 4th production and we are delighted to have a great cast and fantastic muscians,” said producer, Anthony Mayne.
“As we get into rehearsals you can see the cast step into their characters to bring them to life. Touring throughout the Shire only adds to the excitement of live theatre”.
As the cast learn the script the backstage people are busy too.
The sound man is finding 1930s songs and sounds, the band is trying to be Glen Miller, and we are always on the lookout for 1930s costumes.
In those days everyone wore a hat, ladies wore gloves, gentlemen wore a tie … a bit of style.
Moruya’s Red Door Theatre Company is band of travelling players having a good time making sure you have a good time.
