“It’s in difficult country,” he said.
“Bendethra Road is containing it on the northern side, but it will be dependent on the weather today.
“We encourage people to stay informed, know their risks and have a plan if conditions do change.
“The community has been great at identifying lightning strikes yesterday afternoon – if we have hot weather again today they may catch alight.
“We encourage people to be observant.”
Visitors to the Deua National Park are being advised about an active bushfire which is being controlled by water bombing from the air by National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and State Forest crews, with helicopter support.
A NPWS spokesperson said there was no current threat to properties and the fire remained at ‘advice’ alert level on the afternoon of Thursday, January 17.
“The fire is about one hectare in size and on the edge of the Bendethera fire trail, west of Bendethera Mountain,” the spokesperson said.
“Park visitors travelling to the Bendethera camp ground may see fire and smoke.
“The road to the Bendethera camp ground is currently open, but please adhere to local signage and any direction given by onsite fire crews.
“Please also check NPWS website alerts as the road may be closed during the day to support fire operations.
“The fire was reported this morning by Forestry Corporation from the lookout on the Plumwood Fire Tower.”
