In an innings similar to the Indian “wall” Cheteshwar Pujara in the recent Test series, diminutive opener Alex Woolridge batted right through the innings, never looking like getting out, to score his first ever century and put his team in a strong position against Berry.

With resolute defence and old-fashioned “guts” in stifling conditions, Alex opened the innings and remained not out 108 in the Batemans Bay first innings total of 230. He only looked like being defeated when he briefly left the field with heat exhaustion, but returned stronger than ever to chalk up his ton.
He found strong support in the team’s senior players Chad Salmon (42) and the elder Woolridge Brett (18), while Jed Salmon and Josh Vanzetti chipped in with 16 and 10 runs apiece. Alex Woolridge’s great innings only ended when the last Bay batsman was dismissed with the total 230 and Woolridge unconquered on a fine 108.
Berry went in with about an hour until stumps, during which time Jed Salmon and Kasper Matuschka each snared a wicket to have Berry 2 - 34 at stumps.
Elder statesman Brett Woolridge - while proud of his son’s great innings - was at pains to point out the improvement in this side during the season.
These thoughts were echoed by captain Chad Salmon who is looking forward to a strong finish to the season.
The team are currently placed 4th on the ladder, but a win next week should see them leapfrog Berry into 3rd position.
