The derelict service station on the corner of George Bass Drive and Kuppa Avenue has been demolished – and the beach-front motel beside it is coming down too.
The site is set to become a multi-level hotel, after a development application was lodged with the Eurobodalla Shire Council in January 2017.
The council’s director of planning and sustainability, Lindsay Usher, said the application required referral to the NSW Rural Fire Service for their assessment and response before the council can determine if it will be approved.
Demolition began in October 2017, before coming to a halt.
Carlene Franzen, of SOuth Coast Property Specialists, said she had spoken with the owner recently.
“Her words to me were ‘we’re going to keep going until it’s all done now’,” Ms Franzen said.
“The community is just so thrilled – not just to see the derelict building go, but to know that someone has got the faith and belief in Malua Bay to put a 56 room hotel up here.”
