Flathead are being caught in most parts of the river - both live poddy mullet and soft plastics like the Storm four-inch prawn are working well.
The sand flats in front of River Breeze Caravan Park are producing both whiting and flathead on surface lures like the Jackson Pygmy popper and bassday sugapens. For this type of fishing try running a braided main line of around six pounds, and a rod length leader of around five pounds.
Bream are being caught along the rock walls and in the oyster leases around Preddy’s wharf - try a very slow retrieved cranka crab.
Tuross River
Good reports this week of extra large flathead being caught around the four ways - lures of choice have been Daiwa double clutches in both 75 and 95 millimetres. Fish along the edge of the channel preferably on a full tide for best results.
Whiting are also being caught around this area and further up river - bait of choice has been live squirt worms and fresh nippers, but if you’re chasing them with surface lures try up above snake flat.
A few jewfish are being caught in the deeper sections of the river using fresh squid or large soft plastics like squidgie 110-mm prawns.
Rocks and beaches
A few tailor and salmon are being caught in the gutters along airport beach with some nice drummer being caught off the headlands.
Some nice snapper have been caught alongside the rocks at the surf club in Moruya using a good burley trail and floating out an unweighted pilchard.
Squid are still being caught off most headlands around the area - orange jigs seem to be working the best.
Offshore
Great reports this week of snapper, mowies, flathead and sharks. Most fish are being caught out around the 50 to 60 metres of water using Lund’s squid and pilchards for bait.
The boys using soft plastics and micro jigs are catching their fare share of reds just out from the surf club in 20 metres of water. Out on the shelf the marlin and dollies are being caught around Moruya and Tuross canyons trolling skirts.
