Construction has been underway since March 2015 on the spine road to relieve Beach Road traffic, but the sticking point has been how to create a safe Princes Highway intersection.
Work had stopped a few hundred metres short of the highway.
“The NSW Government has committed to funding a new intersection, which will connect the South Batemans Bay Link Road with the Princes Highway,” the Premier announced in Batemans Bay on Tuesday, January 8.
She was at the spine road site with Bega MP and Infrastructure Minister Andrew Constance, who announced $10 million for initial work in 2014 when he was NSW Treasurer.
“We know this intersection is an important project that will benefit the local community and its many visitors,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“The planning work and the development of the design for the new intersection are already being carried out and construction will begin as fast as possible.”
Mr Constance said the project would improve travel time and reduce congestion in the Batemans Bay CBD.
“It will also offer an alternative route to the CBD during any work, closure, or events on Beach Road,” Mr Constance said.
“The investment ensures this area receives the necessary infrastructure investment to support the region’s growth.”
In 2014, the NSW Government granted $10 million to the Eurobodalla Shire Council to build the South Batemans Bay Link Road to manage traffic growth.
In May 2018 Eurobodalla Shire infrastructure director Warren Sharpe called for further funding to complete the project.
