The successful nominations for the CAT Awards were announced in Canberra on Monday night, December 10.
The Cat awards recognise the enormous contribution made by non-professional groups to the artistic life of Australia, in particular in Canberra and the region, and they encourage individuals in the performing arts.
Successful shortlisted nominations were received in the following categories:
BEST PRODUCTION OF A PLAY - Talking Heads - Bay Theatre Players, July 2018, directed by Jenny Kohlhagen.
This production showcased four Alan Bennett monologues, Soldiering On, A Cream Cracker Under the Settee, Bed Among the Lentils and A Lady of Letters.
BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE IN A PLAY – two nominees:
Candy Burgess for her role as Irene in A Lady of Letters in Talking Heads for Bay Theatre Players.
Candy was nominated previously for best actress for her role as Miss Marple in A Murder is Announced and she received a Gold Cat Award in 2006.
Narell Murdoch for her role as Susan in Bed Among the Lentils in Talking Heads for Bay Theatre Players.
Narell has previously been nominated for best supporting actress as Miss Hannigan in Annie, Gwen in Away and as Shirl the luckless bridesmaid in Bimboola.
BEST SET FOR A PLAY - Sam Lloyd (design), Eric Haslem and Geoff Philpott (construction) and Nikki Bath (scenic design) - A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Bay Theatre Players.
Sam previously won a Gold Cat Award in 2017 for her outstanding achievement in the areas of set design, costume design, direction and performance.
BEST LIGHTING - Martyn Lloyd - A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Bay Theatre Players.
Two previous members of the Bay Theatre Players Youth Theatre were also shortlisted in the nominations:
Cody Windward, for Best Costumes for a Musical or Variety Show for Les Miserables, Albatross Theatre Company Nowra, and Annabelle Scobie for Best Youth Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for the witch in Into the Woods, Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts.

The awards night will be held at Llewellyn Hall, Canberra on Saturday, February 23, 2019.
