The students joined their peers across the shire in celebrating the milestone after their final Year 12 marks were made available on Thursday, December 13 and Friday, December 14
Reuben Ryan was one of the school’s star performers in this year’s HSC, achieving an ATAR of 89 and two Band 6s, in Ancient History and Society and Culture.
Reuben said the result came as a pleasant surprise, even if it does mean having to reconsider his options for university.
“I got an early entry for a Bachelor of Arts with a 75 ATAR and I was almost done applying for that. Then I got this mark and it surprised me, so I might have to reconsider and rethink everything all over again,” Reuben said.
Reuben intends to pursue his passion for history at university, but is open to other areas of study.
“I like history a lot and I’m going on a gap year so maybe it will change after that,” he said.
As for his advice for the next crop of Year 12s: “It’s a bit late now to back out. You’re in. Just give it a shot”.
Celebrating alongside him at the Moruya High Graduation on Friday was fellow student Asha Martin, who achieved a Band 6 in Textiles and Design.
“I was happy with that and I’m just relieved it’s all done,” Asha said.
“I wasn’t too stressed about the mark because I got an offer into uni for what I want to do.”
She advised future students to just “do your best”.
“Everyone puts a lot of pressure on it, but it’s not as hard as everyone says.”
Also glad to see the end of the HSC journey was Year 12 graduate Alexander Connolly.
Alexander received early entry into Charles Sturt University, where he will study agricultural science.
“Try hard and just do your best as that’s all you can do,” Alexander advised future HSC students.
“It’s not the end of the world – there’s always other pathways through life.”
