Dags is written by pre-eminent Australian author Debra Oswald and is a funny and compassionate look at the trials of adolescence and the journey of self-discovery.
Gillian, a ‘Dag’, is dealing with her gung-ho sister, her gossipy girlfriends and her addiction to chocolate. Her quest to be beautiful and popular has pushed her to the edge.
The question is will she survive?
This is an opportunity for local teenagers and young adults to be involved on stage as an actor or backstage or in the sound and lighting box.
Director Di Minihan has been involved with Bay Players for many years and has directed a variety of plays, some with controversial or thought-provoking themes.
“Casting a play is thrilling and watching them evolve through the rehearsal process is exciting as they grow in their roles resulting in a production they can be proud of,” Di said.
“I’m confident this production will be a satisfying experience for all involved.”
Assistant director Lyn Sterling has a passion for encouraging young adults to be involved in the theatre.
She has previously assisted with direction or production on other Debra Oswald plays, Stories in the Dark with Di Minihan and House on Fire with Lerae Davison.
“It will be wonderful to work with Di again and I look forward to further developing my skills under her expert and experienced guiding hand,” Lyn said.
The audition workshop will give young people a feel for the play and an understanding of the rehearsal process and the commitment required.
It will be a welcoming, relaxing and safe environment to explore the play and the characters while having fun.
Previous acting experience is not required. So if you are interested please come along, wear comfortable clothes and bring lunch.
Audition forms are available on the website at www.baytheatreplayers.org.au and if you have any further questions please call Lyn Sterling on 0416 181 003.
