Federal Labor has argued upgrading the highway should be funded from a NSW Treasury grown fat on stamp duty and the sale of public assets.
In November 2014, then Eden-Monaro Coalition federal MP Dr Peter Hendy slammed the NRMA for calling the highway “a death trap”. He said “alarmist” comments threatened our tourist trade. Tell that to the families of the young German woman who died on January 7, 2017, in a head-on at Tilba.
Four years on, the federal Coalition government is urged to commit to an 80-20 funding deal.
Both sides of federal politics need to put down the cudgels and start saving lives.
