Yvette Parsons, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of high-range drink driving and of driving without ever having held a licence when she appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday.
Parsons initially pleaded not guilty, claiming she wasn’t driving at the time, but changed her plea after further discussion with the prosecution.
Police alleged witnesses saw Parsons attempting to reverse park on Wharf Road, North Batemans Bay, on the evening of October 23, 2018.
“A number of families were in the grassed area having a barbecue … witnesses observed the vehicle appeared to have been in an accident, with panel damage and a smashed rear windscreen,” police said.
When officers arrived, they found Parsons in the driver’s seat, with the car in reverse and music playing loudly.
Police said she appeared to be “seriously intoxicated” and was struggling to keep her eyes open.
“The accused was slumped in her seat,” police said.
A passenger also appeared intoxicated.
An initial breath test returned a reading of 0.467 and a secondary test recorded a high-range reading of 0.361, more than seven times the legal limit of 0.05.
Parsons denied driving the vehicle but admitted to consuming up to six glasses of wine.
Records showed Parsons had never held a licence.
She will return to Batemans Bay Local Court for sentencing on December 17.
