Reader Rachel O'Loughlin sent in these images of a juvenile eastern brown snake taking a dip at South Broulee Beach on low tide.
“I have never seen an Eastern Brown with such definite bands, and I hadn't seen one swimming before,” she said.
“Apparently the bands often fade as they grow older. It is highly venomous and should be treated with caution and respect.”
Sandy Collins, of WIRES, said she had a similar encounter not long ago.
“That is totally correct and it’s so weird,” she said.
“(A couple of) weeks ago I was at the same beach and came across the exact same thing at low tide near the rock pools.”
