In a joint venture between Batemans Bay U3A and the Batemans Bay Uniting Church, the two groups decided to hold a Ceilidh [pronounced Kaylee]. This is a Scottish social evening, where all those attending contribute their skills, which may be in cooking, playing music, singing, dancing, decorating or organising.

Members representing both organisations got together early in the year to plan such an event, and were astounded at the response to the idea. Three weeks out from the Ceilidh, tickets are sold out and bookings closed.
Preparations are well underway with haggis ordered, menu planned, drinks organised, volunteers ready to move furniture and set tables, and U3A Singers and Scottish Dancers rehearsed and ready. The U3A Sketching Group has created some gorgeous sketches of Old Reekie, Lochs, Highland Beasties, and fine ancient Scottish buildings.
They will make up part of the decorations, with Scottish flags, verses, Scottie dogs and of course plenty of tartan adding to the colour.
The ceremony of piping the Haggis and Robbie Burns’ Ode will be the highlight of the day and be a significant prelude to the Scottish meal.
