Twelve St Cecilia Youth Music Scholarships are awarded worth a total of almost $6000.
Auditions were held with independent judges - this year two Canberra Grammar School music teachers.
The adjudicators had the difficult task at the auditions, of choosing the most exceptional - from the many excellent 8 to 18-year-old performers - to perform in a concert.
The concert which is open to the public will be held at St Bernard's Church, Batehaven on Sunday, November 18, at 3.30pm.
At the concert, performers will be awarded with scholarships ranging from $100 to $1000 which will go towards furthering their studies.
Those who come to the concert will enjoy the musical talents of the young in our region - from classical and contemporary to instrumental and vocal.
On Sunday, November 11, two young people who auditioned gave a mini-concert for residents at the Opal Aged Care Facility in Denhams Beach.
Among other songs, Bree Mealy sang Killing me Softly, made famous by Roberta Flack, with delightful vocal clarity.
Bree says: “Ever since I can remember I have always loved to sing. My first time I performed was in front of my school (which I was freaking out about) and I instantly fell in love with it”.
Recuerdos de la Alhumbra by Francisco Tarrega was the highlight of the technically expressive music played by Brody Blackman on acoustic guitar.
Brody says: “I have been playing guitar and getting lessons since I was 6 years old. I would like to attend the Conservatorium in Sydney or take a Science Degree".
Those who come to the concert will enjoy the musical talents of the young in our region - from classical and contemporary to instrumental and vocal.
