The Ulladulla United product leg-spinner returned the strong figures of 5/14 from just 7.4 overs, as his Comets side dismissed the hosts for 233 on day one at the Junction Oval.
Spin combined to claim seven of the 10 Victorian wickets to fall on the first day, after the hosts skipper and former NSW Blues’ batsman Nic Maddinson, from Nowra, won the toss and elected to bat first.
With the bat, Maddinson, in his first appearance for Victoria’s Futures League side, would go on to make 26, with tea mates Edward Newman (65) and Jonathan Merlo (52) both making half centuries.
In reply, the visitors are 4/126 with Hayden Kerr (30 not out) and, Engelbrecht (one not out) unbeaten at stumps.
Opener Matthew Gilkes, also from Ulladulla, hit 28 before being dismissed by Jack Coleman.
Both Mitchell Perry (2/21) and left-arm speedster Coleman (2/29) have two wickets a piece for Victoria.
