Dragon boat paddlers from Nature Coast have recently returned from the Pan Pacific Masters Games held on the Gold Coast.

The Moruya-based Nature Coast crews combined with paddlers from Illawarra, Narooma and Nowra competed as the Southern Warriors.
The PanPacs, as they are known, are held every two years on the Gold Coast and the event continues to grow in stature, attracting competitors from all over Australia and the region.
The Dragon Boat Regatta attracted teams from most parts of Australia and from Canada, New Zealand and Singapore.
The competition was very strong with some of Australia’s top clubs participating.
The Southern Warriors did the region proud and were competitive in all the events in which they entered.
The spirit among the team was excellent and their performance was just reward for the effort that has been put in at training.

The highlight was the performance of the Women’s B (over 50) team who came back with bronze medals in the 500m event, finishing a metre from the winners.
The Southern Warriors team also completed the 4.8km round-the-island race in a time of just over 25 minutes, which was a very good performance.
The spirit among the team was excellent and their performance was just reward for the effort that has been put in at training.
The Nature Coast women’s team will now concentrate on training for upcoming regattas and the National Dragon Boat Championships to be held in Canberra next year.
