Well almost. Entrants for the first race of the day were paraded and left the gate to the barriers but were called back to the stalls after the on-track ambulance was needed to transport an ill patron.

It’s all extra experience for the horses in the Amprell Civil Engineering Maiden Plate over 920 metres. Maiden races are only open to horses which had not yet won a race.
Favourite in the first is the Lynne Morrison trained Mr Dreamy, jockeyed by Neil Perryman, a horse who was also attracting ringside favour.
Penny McManus is a regular attendee with the Ray White Batemans Bay and put her money on the handsome grey gelding.
“I’m going with Mr Dreamy, he’s just like my husband – dreamy.”, a comment sure to win Penny brownie points at home.
Kim Taylor also favoured Mr Dreamy.
“He looks beautiful and he is the only runner who has already placed. But mainly he’s spunky,’ Kim said.
Kim was attending with Rebecca Martin, the friends met having riding lessons. They don’t get to the races often.
“But this might be a new beginning,” Rebecca said..
In the end, Dreamy’s good looks counted for nought; with the Chicka Pearson trained All Bear for the win. Second was Matthew Wood’s Marlayter, with The Pilbara, also trained by Chicka, third.
Moruya Jockey Club manager Brian Cowden said he expected a good turn out at the racecourse today, with overcast conditions no hindrance to racing.
“It’s a bit blowy which might effect the horses a little but we expect a good day of racing, with five races on the card,” Brian said.
The second race, the L J Hooker Class 2 Handicap over 1425 metres, attracted a small field with Joe Cleary’s Tag and Release moving up the straightto beat Idalia’s Dream, with Georgian Court third.
It was a two-horse race that thrilled the crowd. Late scratching saw only Call The Clock and Skippit enter the barriers for the All About Glass Maiden Plate over 1650metres. It was a close-run thing, as the crowd cheered the Moruya trained Call The Clock to win by a nose.
The magic Moruya touch continued when the Natalie Jarvis trained Millijule finished strongly to take out the Choices Flooring Benchmark 50 Handicap over 1650 metres. Chatober, trained by Moruya’s Bernie Connell was second, with Abington Threat third.
