The 40th annual event took place on Saturday, October 13, with eager competitors from all over the world descending on the island for the prestigious sporting spectacle.
Ideal weather conditions greeted the 2472 athletes as they toughed out a 3.8km ocean swim, 180km bike leg and marathon run.
Beby completed the open water swim in an impressive 1:05:37, before putting the pedal to the metal in a gruelling 180km bike leg, which he completed in an amazing time of 5:01:14. The Eurocoast Triathlon Club member then crossed the finish line after completing the marathon run in 3:42:48.
His total race time was 9:57:15, which was only a few minutes slower than his qualifying time from the Ironman Port Macquarie race, and taking into account the heat and wind on the Kona course, it shows the dedication Beby has had during his preparation.
Beby placed 114th in his age division and 692nd overall out of almost 2500 competitors who started the race. More than 70 failed to finish and a number of others were disqualified.
Beby took his family with him for support and to experience the most revered triathlon in the world.
This year’s event was the fastest in history, with men’s winner Patrick Lange becoming the first person to finish in under eight hours.
