“We could see the ship from Long Beach,” resident John Wharton said.
“I’ve been on her two sister vessels, the Hebridean Sky and the Island Sky, both lovely small ship experiences.”
Other residents, such as Linda Doughty, took to smaller craft, such a jet skis, to get an up close and personal look at the visiting ship.
Batemans Bay could become a regular port for cruise ships, with Eurobodalla Shire Council working to establish a regular visiting timetable with the NSW Ports Authority. The MS Caledonian Sky arrived with 90 passengers and 78 crew as part of a three-week voyage along Australia’s east coast. A 450-passenger cruise ship, the MV Seabourn Sojourn, is expected in December. The council’s tourism manager, Meredith Wray, said Batemans Bay was an appealing destination as the closest port to Canberra
