Dalmeny Women
It was gorgeous weather for a game of bowls on Tuesday, October 9. The semi-final of the Drawn Pairs was played alongside a couple of rinks of social bowls. The winners of the Drawn Pairs, and the day, were Gail Farrell and Barbara Wort, with the other Drawn Pairs winners, Robin Gourley and Enid Brooker, as runners-up. Verona Armstrong was closest to the spider and Chris Hansen scored a resting toucher.
I forgot to write down the raffle winners but Olwyn Mayer celebrated a birthday during the week. Many happy returns. Diary dates include our Quarterly meeting at 10am on Wednesday, October 24, the Past Presidents’ Day on Tuesday, October 30 and our annual Christmas party on Wednesday, December 12. We hope to see all members at all events.
Club Dalmeny
Results for week ending October 14. The threatening rain was blown away for some relatively clear blue skies with scattered clouds for the 35 Monday bowlers with our Ex-PM Neil swinging in the slight breeze by our president’s mate Keify on the cards and selecting highest winning margin which turned out to be 14 and seemed difficult to determine. Not for the winners in Pom Kennedy, Brooker Jim and Windy Ray but for the runners-up in Docker Ian, Par Wain and Sailor Brian.
Peter the Pom took out the first resting toucher but nobody took out the $79 jackpot. Wrong bias sinners were Snoopy Leigh with 2 each for our Macedonian Illya and Ex-PM Neil while the raffle prizes went to the Goose, the Sailor, Towelling Lewis and Smokey Ian.
Our Thursday afternoon didn’t start well with the news that the bowls office safe had been cleaned out of all our paper funds. The police are looking into the matter.
However, it didn’t dampen the spirit of the 28 bowlers organised by Snoopy Leigh with the points system deciding the winners on 211/2 points in Dine-back Brooker, Golden Arches Alan and the KV man Clive from the runners-up on 171/2 points and after a 3-times 3-way countback in Scarf-man Jack and Towelling Lewis. Marg Ponder took out the resting toucher and the $28 jackpot was not won. Ex-PM Neil put in twice along with Alan and Mayoress Olwyn into the wrong bias sinner’s jar while the raffle prizes went to Cobber Dudley, Dr McKenzie’s girl Maureen, Snoopy, the Scarf-man, Enid and naturally ticket seller Lois.
In the first game of the Friday night Twilight bowls season sponsored by Club Dalmeny Men’s Bowlers it was ably organised first time by Brett or Graham who had 12 bowlers enjoying the clear and cool conditions which saw the team of Bob Less and Ray Overbar winning from the Ver-L father/daughter team of John and Claire with the first resting toucher scored by Postie Joe.
The Friday twilight game is open to all over the age of 12, both male and female. So come along and enjoy two hours of fun. Please get your names down on the sign-up sheets by 4.45pm for the 5.30pm start.
The first round of the “100-Up” event was called off due to the inclement weather over Saturday night and Sunday morning so please check the noticeboard for any changes due to this delay.
