“Food glorious food!”, that is how the song goes, but we did not need to go cap in hand for anything! There was so much food that no one would have needed dinner!
Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels celebrated National Meals on Wheels Day with a High Tea. It turned out to be a community event with the support from local businesses in gifts for volunteers, in the Moruya Jockey Club donating the lounge at the racetrack and Moruya Rotary providing the catering.
Sixty volunteers were catered for and amongst the group were Fiona Scott (NSW MoW Network leader) and her husband, and former manager Carol Meindl. It was great to catch up with these two ladies as both had played a big part in the development of our co-operative.
President Phil Armstrong spoke, and thanked the volunteers saying that they were the life blood of our organisation. He also noted that within our community their importance was most significant.
Manager Alan Russell noted that the volunteers had come from the three parts of the Shire. The northern group were from Batemans Bay, the central group from Moruya and the southern group from Narooma.
Each group stood and were welcomed. He noted that it was good to meet and get to know each other at least once a year.
Presentations were made to volunteers who had reached milestones in their service to the co-operative. Leading the list was Ruth McPhee who has completed 53 years of service to Meals on Wheels.
Another had completed 40 years, with other presentations going to those who had done 5, 10, 20 and 25 years of service.
There was great laughter when the annual Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels Awards were made. These recognise the funny little things which happen when volunteers are out and about. Each story was told before the presentations were made.
Prizes had been generously donated by various local businesses including In and Out at Mogo, Curtis & Cloud, Firefly Interiors, Harry & Rouge, and Harris Scarfe
The afternoon was most pleasant and a great way to recognise and thank our volunteers as being part of a wider organisation than just within the Eurobodalla.
All volunteers were presented with a heart-shaped tin of mints, and nobody should have gone home empty handed…..there were food trays to take if wanted!
