The Boars started their season well, winning three of their first four games, including an away victory over eventual finalists Yass.
Their season unraveled from their however, as a run of five losses from six matches doomed their finals chances.
A late fightback kept their slim finals hopes alive, but four-straight losses to end the season sent them home early.
Max Harrison was named best-and-fairest for the season, a well-deserved honour according to club president Matthew Ryan.
“Max was part of the rep program, and he made the shift into the forwards this year," he said. “He also took on a leadership role within the team.
“He performed consistently throughout the season, and surprised some people with how well he adapted to his new role.”
Ryan said Harrison’s off-field work was a big factor in the award.
“He was definitely one of our best players on the field, but in addition to that, he showed great leadership both on and off the field,” Ryan said. “His willingness to contribute off the field made up the fairest side of the award.”
Jim Roberts took out the captain’s award after impressing both Andrew Fleming and Max Harrison throughout the year.
“The two captains easily justified Jim’s award with the support he gave both of them,” Ryan said. “Jim was consistent all year both in games and at training, so the award is a reflection of that.”
The club didn’t have the traditional “chick’s pick” this season, but gave the honour to player Luke Condon. Condo’s pick was Sean Smith.
“We didn’t have too many girls travel to away games this year, so we gave the pick to Condo,” Ryan said. “I think he got a kick out of it, but he wasn’t there to present the award in the end.”
Ryan said all awards were highly deserved, and looked forward to getting into next season.
“It was a great night, and all the awards that were presented were thoroughly deserved," he said. “We did a lot of community work throughout the year, and one of the highlights of the night was talking about the future direction of the club, and the good base we’ve created this year for that.”
Other awards on the night included Sean Bow winning the best-forward award, Jim Thomas winning the best-back award, and Lindon Blissendon taking out the coach’s award.
