Up to 6000 tickets are on offer to those who register to attend the event which will see the Cahill Expressway shut down to accommodate the family friendly affair which has been held since 2000.
Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson David Fishburn said this is one of the best vantage points on Sydney Harbour.
“The Cahill Expressway New Year’s Eve celebration is a flagship event for Roads and Maritime and remains free of charge to the public compared to the very crowded and costly ticketed areas nearby,” Mr Fishburn said.
“It’s easy to register for tickets – simply head to the Roads and Maritime webpage for the chance to win up to five tickets for either the 9pm or midnight fireworks.
“The public ballot will run for two weeks, until Monday, October 22 at 12:00am so everyone is encouraged to get online and register. Tickets are allocated by random selection.”
Mr Fishburn said NYE on the Cahill’s popularity continues to increase each year, with more than 110,000 ballot entries in 2017.
“Event goers last year really enjoyed themselves, with 97 per cent stating they would recommend it to others.”
“Winners will have one week to redeem their tickets and a further two draws will be run if tickets are unclaimed.”
The two sessions are specifically designed to be family friendly, alcohol and smoke free, and a safe and secure environment.
There will be increased comfort by way of astro turf, high quality food vendors and more tables and seating – so no need to carry food with you.
There will also be activities and entertainment for everyone like giant games, face painting, a DJ and a photo competition.
Mr Fishburn said tickets for other events at prime locations on Sydney Harbour are already on sale, with some well on the way to selling out.
“It is a massive feat in building the whole set up on the day of the event, bringing in the food trucks and entertainment and having them all ready for the first ticketed session just before the sun sets,” he said.
“It is another big effort cleaning up after the event, moving everything out and deconstructing the setup – ready for the Cahill Expressway to be open to traffic by 3am on New Year’s Day.”
Entry to the Cahill Expressway is by ticket only. Smoking and alcohol is strictly prohibited.
