The sign is linked live to the Rural Fire Service Head Office in Sydney and displays current bush fire ratings for the local area.

The new sign is very timely.

We have had a particularly dry winter and there is a lot of dry fuel in bush areas which can potentially generate intense bush fires.

We urge property owners to prepare for a potentially difficult fire season.

Residents are encouraged to become familiar with the sign and learn to interpret how the Fire Danger Rating should inform their plans. More details can be found at https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fdr-and-tobans.

To assist residents and property owners between Surf Beach and Tomakin, and inland to Dunns Creek Road, the Malua Bay Brigade is holding a fire information day on Saturday, October 6, from 8am to midday.  It will be held in conjunction with the Quota Club Markets on the Malua Bay beach reserve next to the surf club. 

Brigade members will be available to answer questions and provide literature on Bush Fire Safety, how to prepare property, and how to prepare a personal Bush Fire Survival Plan.

Families in particular are welcome to closely inspect fire fighting vehicles and equipment which will be on display.

Our Towns Our Say is expecting a good turnout from the community this Saturday, October 6, at Moruya Golf Club for its third public meeting this year.  

Commencing at 2.30pm, there are two agenda items: firstly an update on the Mackay Park redevelopment in Batemans Bay and secondly, the main item,  our health services.   Guest speakers include Lisa Kennedy from Eurobodalla Health Services and Dr Michael Holland.

Our Towns Our Say continues to bring issues affecting the Eurobodalla Shire community to the public’s attention for debate in an apolitical atmosphere where you, the community, has the opportunity to air your comments and ask questions.

I met a young student who had started to turn his life around and was enjoying and attending school regularly.

On the outside, he was a healthy teenager who just had some trouble engaging at school; I didn’t recognise the pain he was starting to suffer.  He moved away from our services to another city. Gradually he became overwhelmed by an intense internal trauma, he fell into abusing alcohol and committed suicide one night when he was drunk.

October is mental health month. Not enough people get help with these issues, which often extend from some form of abuse, and those that don’t get help often go on to suffer from further disadvantage, a life of crime or spiral downwards into alcohol and other drug abuse.

It can be easy miss signs that someone you care about is struggling, but we need to take those extra steps to help our friends, family, colleagues and anyone else in your life.
