Quarry wharf in Moruya has fished reasonably well for bream, tailor and trevally using baits like prawns and tuna fillets.

The bridge area in Moruya is still holding schools of luderick with some very nice fish landed this week using fresh nippers for bait.

Whiting have been on the bite down the front of the Tuross system. They have been very fussy and only seem to be taking squirt worms as bait.

Flathead are just starting to liven up a bit in Tuross with some good numbers reportedly being caught this past week using paddle tail plastics like squidgie fish and squidgie prawns.

Salmon are still going strong off the beach. Congo, Coila, North Heads and South Heads beaches have all be producing good numbers of fish both spinning with metals or bait fishing using pilchards and gang hook rigs.

We haven't had any reports of drummer or squid, but it's certainly the right time of the year and would definitely be worth a go over the weekend.

Minimal reports for offshore this week, but the few we did have were quite good. Straight off the front of Moruya in roughly 50 metres of water saw one angler bag a few nice reds and some good size flathead over the 50-centimetre mark.

Bottom bouncing baits like squid and pillies just off Windsock has also produced some good numbers of flathead in the 25-metre mark.

With improving conditions there are reports of good catches of snapper and morwong off southern reefs. 

There remain a surprising number of bait fish around, and often good snapper lurk beneath the bait balls. 

Flathead however have become quiet and we wait for the next tranche of warmer current to bring them back onto the chew.  

Water temperatures are slowly rising in the estuaries and there is already some dusky flathead activity at Mogareeka. 

Good bream and estuary perch remain active further up the Bega River. Soft plastics, hard bodies and peeled prawns remain the best baits.

With Mallacoota Inlet closed at the entrance since November and a 40-knot southerly wind accompanied by rain, members did well to catch anything!

Fishing was difficult in very Wintery weather with the locals saying with no recent rain, the lake and water quality is as poor as they’ve ever seen it.

Nevertheless, the outing was good, company very good and Mallacoota is a lovely place to visit.
