We all know it’s crucial to our health to get – and keep – moving throughout our lives. But sometimes that’s easier said than done. Primary provider of culturally appropriate integrated health services for Aboriginal people on the NSW Far South Coast, Katungul, obtained funding for a culturally safe space for clients to work out.

“Katungul’s gym aims to break down the cultural and economic barriers some of our clients have when it comes to working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” a spokesperson said.
“Often our clients might find it financially difficult to keep up gym payments for local gyms, or might not feel comfortable in the spaces provided.
“Holistic care underpins our model of service and by opening our new gymnasium we are able to create sustainable pathways to better health and wellbeing for our clients … that could provide our clients an avenue to address some of the key origins of chronic disease, mental health and general wellbeing conditions.”
Katungul’s opened the space on September 14, with NRL player Preston Campbell coming down for the celebrations.
