Attracting only 28 primary votes out of 351 cast (34 after preferences), Mrs Gash stood for the position left vacant after the resignation of Hollie Hughes.
It’s an important role within the party, which would have given Mrs Gash, who was backed by the Warringah Hard Right faction, a vote in the preselection of Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis.
Instead, the role has gone to non-factional candidate Aileen MacDonald, who attracted 184 votes.
The vote was held over two weeks, with ballots cast by post or in person.
“This result is part of generational change within the NSW Liberal Party,” a party source said.
