The two inters divisions have been tight all season long, and that reflected on Saturday as both games finished with just a two-goal difference.
The Barreling Waves and the Narooma Nightflames clashed in the division one grand final after finished first and second respectively during the regular season.
The Waves won the major semi-final by two goals a fortnight ago, before the Nightflames qualified for the grand final last weekend with a 59-12 win over the Rolling Waves.
The two sides had played each other four previous times this season, with the Barreling Waves winning three of those matches.
It looked like being four in the first quarter, as the Waves raced away to a quick seven-goal lead.
However, the Nightflames worked their way back into the match in the second quarter, and went into the half-time break on level pegging.
The second half stayed tight, as neither side managed to build any kind of substantial lead. Narooma eventually got some clearance, as they scored the last two goals of the match in a 44-42 win.
Division two pegged the Rippling Waves against the Narooma Comets. The Comets finished the regular season on top of the ladder, but the Rippling Waves were the only side to score more goals than they conceded.
All signs pointed to a close grand final, and that’s what transpired in the first half, as both sides struggled for consistency early on.
The Waves pulled away slightly in the third quarter, as their goalscorers got on top of the Comets’ defence.
Narooma wasn’t done though, as they hit back hard late in the match with a string of goals. It wasn’t enough though, as the Waves finished with a 23-21 victory.
