This week marked the nationally-celebrated WARRIOR parkrun which is a partnership event between parkrun Australia and the Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF). The day falls on the weekend of Fathers’ Day and is intended to draw attention to the men, fathers and male role models who positively impact our local communities. The IMF was established in 2009 by Australian marathon legend Rob de Castella and uses running to celebrate Indigenous resilience and achievement.

Our participants had some fun with a parkrun ‘selfie frame’ this week and there are a lot of great photos on our Facebook page (search Batemans Bay parkrun to check them out).
We had visitors from Canberra, Goulburn, Sydney and Perth who were all impressed with the weather, friendly locals and our flat parkrun course. Our first finisher was Sydney visitor Michael Coomans in a speedy time of 18 minutes 56 seconds. Unfortunately Michael left his printed barcode at home in Sydney so couldn’t have an official result recorded. But he enjoyed himself and the competition provided by our fastest local Neil Mackay, who finished in 19 minutes and 39 seconds. Third finisher and first female was local speedster Lauren Evans in a time of 20 minutes 13 seconds.
At the other end of our field we had a number of walkers who are continuing to improve their times. Congratulations to Peter Johnsen and Linda Murray who achieved personal best (PB) times. Linda has now completed five parkruns and has managed to do it a little faster every single time.
All runners and walkers are welcome to join us on the 5km course. We meet every Saturday morning at 7.50am for the 8am start. You can register online at www.parkrun.com.au to obtain a barcode which you must bring along with you every week to get a recorded result. The venue is Rotary Park near the Marina roundabout in Batemans Bay.
