While the weather forecast was threatening, players enjoyed near perfect conditions for tennis for most of the weekend. 

In Men’s Singles, Merimbula’s Dennis Love overcame Phil Higgs from Tuross. Batemans Bay’s Donna Davis took out the women’s final against Christine Jarrett (ACT).

Local players were well represented in the winners list in other events including:

Mixed Doubles: Ange Brooks and Ian Keating, Janelle and Garry Tye, Jill and Wayne Riches, Anne Sawtell and Mark Koehler

Mens Doubles: Richard Sellick and Doug Skipper, Sam and Tom Wilson, Noel Brooks and Wayne Riches, Dean Malcolm and Glenn McInerney

Womens Doubles: Elaine Anderson and Michele Blackburn, Donna Davis and Robyn Castle (Sydney), Karen Tritton and Joanne Adams (ACT)

The Brian Smith Perpetual Shield for the oldest singles winner was presented to Dennis Love by Norah Smith.

The John Allard Perpetual Shield for the oldest women’s doubles winners was presented to ACT’s Sue Cowie and Julie Howe

Organisers wish to thank the sponsors, all the players for supporting the tournament, and all the volunteers at Moruya and Tuross Head tennis clubs who worked so hard to make this annual event such a success.

The Moruya Seniors Tennis Tournament is part of a statewide circuit of tennis tournaments for over-35’s. Virtually every weekend there is an over-35’s tournament somewhere in NSW. While there are plenty who take their sport seriously, the overall emphasis is on participation and social interaction, not winning.
