The men were assisted by interested students, who helped by digging holes for posts (and backfilling), handing tools to the men and passing screws etc when required.
The students enjoyed the chance to be involved in the construction of the shed and are looking forward to the introduction of the sheep into the compound.
Men’s Shed President, Ron Magus, said “the Shed was always happy to be involved in community projects, provided we have the expertise and equipment to complete the project”.
Meantime, council workers have done a great job installing the “balance challenge” at Corrigan’s Park Playground, constructed by Batemans Bay Men’s Shed, as a joint community project between the Eurobodalla Council and the Men’s Shed.
The Men’s Shed team was organised by Dave Boyton with Les O’Connell, Don Turner, Bob Elvins, Clayton Woodham, Bob Oerder and Jan van der Broek all contributing to the project.
Council supplied the materials (from reclaimed timber, some from the old Runnyford bridge) to the Men’s Shed. The Shed team then built the challenge to the plans (also supplied by council).
The layout of the timber equipment is designed to challenge younger children and children with physical restrictions or in rehab to develop co-ordination and confidence. It is configured so that parents/carers can be in close proximity to the child using the challenge, to render assistance if required.
