Of all the pioneers among the founders of Friends of Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden, it is perhaps to Pat that the community owe most thanks.
While a committee member of Coastwatchers, she drove the organisation’s determination to set up a reserve for native plants.
(She) would have been rightfully proud of her role in setting up our community’s treasured amenity.
- Heather Haughton
It was Pat, with Helen Rees, who found the land below Deep Creek Dam, which is the site of the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden.
It was Pat who became the first Chair of Friends and its representative on the shire’s first management committee for the Garden in December 1986.
Friends kept Pat informed of the Garden’s progress and she contributed to the successful submission to have the Wallace Herbarium listed on the shire’s heritage register.
Issues of health and distance meant she was unable to visit the Garden, but she remained interested in in the Garden as it developed and would have been rightfully proud of her role in setting up our community’s treasured amenity.
Her legacy lives on.
