The Member for Gilmore Ann Sudmalis said she welcomed yesterday’s drought support announcement, saying it would help farmers in her region.
She said Major General Stephen Day, DSC, AM, had been appointed as national drought coordinator.
Mrs Sudmalis said the response included tax breaks for farmers, low-interest loans and an easier application for the ‘Farm Household Allowance’.
“However more awareness needs to be raised about the tough conditions facing our dairy farmers and I’ll continue to fight for this on their behalf,” she said.
“Due to the price limits of $1 per litre of milk, many of our dairy farmers have not been able to build any financial reserves and are already heavily in debt. This is a significant concern for our dairy industry.”
