George Bass Drive at Catalina will be closed between the Sunshine Bay Road and Glenella Road roundabouts from 7am on Wednesday, August 22 until 2.30pm on Friday, August 24.
Eurobodalla Shire Council is completing major drainage works at the site and will close the road for crews to conduct excavation works.
During the closure, all traffic will detour via Beach Road and Sunshine Bay Road. The area will be well signposted and motorists are urged to avoid the area if they can.
Following the three-day road closure, partial closures will resume until the project is finished at the end of August.
For the remainder of project, northbound traffic on George Bass Drive will be able to access Batemans Bay through the worksite with care, while southbound traffic will be diverted via Beach Road.
Cyclists are urged to avoid the section of road during the works due to the lack of an adequate road shoulder.
A council spokesperson said every attempt was being made to minimise traffic disruption.
The council encourages motorists to take extra care, follow traffic control direction and speed limit signs, and allow extra time when travelling through the area.
The project will be followed by two more road culvert works – extending the culvert on Beach Road at Wimbie Creek to allow for future road widening and a new shared pathway, and extending the culvert on George Bass Drive near Carramar Drive.
