The eight-kilometre event was in danger of cancellation due to some significant cost increases.
President of Moruya Surf Life Saving Club, Michael Pheeney, said it was a lucky break for the community event.
"For many years we have been relying on the goodwill of a number of people to run our event, but we were recently advised that we would have to start paying for traffic management and timing services,” he said.
The news meant the club was caught between continuing the much loved community event and making no money, or cancelling the even altogether. The Moruya Town to Surf Fun run is the surf club's major annual fundraiser.
"It is a big event for us and something we enjoy putting on for the community, but we use a lot of volunteer hours to put a fun run together, and it was not making sense to use people's time for no financial benefit for the club," Mr Pheeney said.
Moruya surf club approached Southern Phone to see if they could help, and were very grateful when they received the response ensuring the fun run would go ahead.
"We very much appreciate the work that the Moruya SLSC do for our community, and as such we are very pleased to support this event,” Managing Director of Southern Phone, David Joss, said. “We look forward to making the event a huge success."
With the last minute reprieve the Moruya Town to Surf committee are now working hard to catch up.
"With a little bit of a late start, we are relying on our past participants to get their entries in quickly and grab a friend or family member to run with them too,” Mr Pheeney said.
“Eight kilometres is a good challenge, but realistic for anyone who wants to run or walk the scenic course from Riverside Park to the Moruya Surf Club.”
The Moruya Town to Surf Fun Run is on Sunday September 9.
The event is open to all ages with junior entry just $25, and adult $30.
Runners and walkers can register online via www.moruyasurf.org.au, or entry forms are available at Better Bodies Fitness in Moruya.
