A move to strengthen ties between TAFE NSW and the community, and highlight training opportunities, has resulted in a new position being established at TAFE NSW Batemans Bay and Moruya.

Deb Everson White has commenced as TAFE Services Coordinator at TAFE NSW Batemans Bay and Moruya, a position with a simple but powerful job description – community first.
She moved to the Eurobodalla at Easter and has already become a volunteer with Marine Rescue NSW Batemans Bay, Narooma School of Arts and is an active member of the Moruya and Batemans Bay chambers of commerce.
“I’m really connecting with this community, I love it,” she said.
“I was drawn to Moruya as I spent most of my school holidays at Narooma.
“The Eurobodalla is spectacular. I love the climate and the country feel in a coastal setting, and the people are warm, friendly and welcoming.”
Ms Everson White is heavily into spinning and weaving textiles, and is planning to host a Spinning-In-Public Day in Moruya.
Ms Everson White’s passion for communites is expressed each year during the Alice Springs Beanie Festival.
She is the festival’s volunteer vice chair and has played a role in helping it grow from a picnic selling 100 beanies to a four-day festival with 7000 beanies from around the world.
“The festival aims to empower Aboriginal artists to become independent income earners through their art,” she said.
“The benies are a wearable medium for them to express their art. It’s a wonderuful way to help a community.
“Everyone benefits from a strong, vibrant town and TAFE NSW is proud of the role it plays in helping communities grow and meet future challenges.
“I’m really looking forward to working closely with the community and making sure we deliver the training and educational opportunities it wants and deserves.
“I’m so excited to be the public face of TAFE NSW locally and I urge everyone to pop in and see what TAFE NSW has to offer – you might be surprised.”
TAFE Services Coordinators play a critical role in the daily operations of a campus and have a strong focus on community engagement.
Regional General Manager Kerry Penton said the new roles would bring TAFE NSW even closer to the communities it serves.
“We have a long and proud affiliation with our towns and the new TAFE Services Coordinators will ensure we continue to be responsive to community and industry needs,” Ms Penton said.
“It’s a very exciting time at TAFE NSW and I encourage local residents to make the most of the exciting training opportunities available to them.”
During Semester 2 at TAFE NSW Moruya is offering Certificate II in Maritime Operations Coxwain Grade 1 Near Coastal, and Certificate III in maritime operation Master up to 24 metres near coastal. TAFE NSW Batemans Bay is taking enrolments for a Diploma in Nursing.
