Geoff Fielding says the group believes the meeting indicates “the state government is stating to take our concerns seriously”.
The NSW Coastal Alliance outlined concerns in a media release.
“The South Coast town of Batemans Bay will be the first coastal town to experience the full force of the NSW Coastal Management Act, made operational in April 2018,” the release said.
The release expressed concern about areas designated “vulnerable” under the Eurobodalla Shire Council’s Coastal Management Plan, which is required under the NSW Government Coastal Management Act.
“Council and the state government, through the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH), can either produce a plan to protect these areas ... or to simply abandon them, as promoted by Eurobodalla Shire Council with the support of the OEH,” the NSW Coastal Alliance said.
The alliance said it was concerned that landowners may be out of pocket if property is abandoned, and encouraged members of the public to attend drop in sessions held by the Eurobodalla Shire Council to discuss the Coastal Management Plan.
