NBN Co is alerting people to watch out for scammers asking for personal information and financial details.
A spokesperson said scammers were impersonating NBN Co to take advantage of consumers, including those in retirement villages.
NBN Co chief security officer, Darren Kane, advised people to be on alert when receiving unsolicited calls or knocks at the door.
“It is important to be aware that NBN Co will never make unsolicited calls or door knock to sell broadband services,” Mr Kane said.
“NBN Co may make calls to individuals registered on our Medical Alarm or Fire and Lift registers, but will never request payment or bank account details during these calls.
“There are times when NBN Co may contact you directly as part of the network rollout, but never to request payment for services over the nbn network.”
Mr Kane advised that people protect their information by verifying who they are talking to and not giving away their personal or bank account details to unsolicited callers.
If you think you have been a victim, immediately report the scam to your bank or financial institution, and the police.
