He said he had been having issues with his NBN connection – so was not alarmed when he received a phone call on Friday, July 13, from a man claiming to represent Telstra.
The victim said the caller asked if he had been having problems with his internet.
When he said yes, the caller requested remote access to his computer, which he provided.
Later that day he found over $9000 had gone missing – just under the $10,000 that would trigger an alert with the bank.
He said he had heard of others being targeted with a similar scam, and advised others not to grant remote access to their computer, regardless of how legitimate the request may seem.
